Jack Florey Fund
------------------------
The Jack Florey Fund is a charitable fund to benefit various educational, artistic, and social endeavors. It is set up by Jack Florey and his friends to do good work while at the same time increasing the visibility and reputation of Jack Florey. It is donor advised fund managed by the Boston Foundation, and as such it is part of a 501(c)(3) public charitable organization. For people who do not have the time to figure out their charity options, but trust Jack Florey, the Jack Florey Fund is an ideal vehicle for their charitable needs. For example, the Jack Florey Fund may give a gift to the Home for Little Wanderers, since Jack himself is such a wanderer. Or it may give money to create a Jack Florey classroom somewhere at MIT or at another educational institution, such as Harvard. You may end up at a Boston Pops concert and see Jack Florey listed in the program.
The Jack Florey Fund will make grants to other 501(c)(3) charitable organizations based on the advice of the advisor board. The exact mix of these organizations will vary over time, but we hope to include smaller organizations that might not get the attention that they deserve, such as the Pine Street Inn.
Given Jack Florey's special relationship to MIT, the Jack Florey fund has an "Institute Screw" subfund. Any gift designated as part of the Institute Screw subfund will not be given to MIT, and may be given to charitable institution that would be seen as an appropriate outlet for people frustrated with MIT, such as CalTech, McLean Hospital, or homeless shelters around the Boston area. Any suggestions for grants for the Institute Screw subfund are welcome.
